Salvo visit the LA Galaxy

Posted by: ODEE

On Independance day the Birmingham Salvo along with a few friends from the London Mint and Stockholm Magnetik attended an MLS game between the LA Galaxy and the New England Revolution. The match ended in defeat for Galaxy by two goals to one but at least we got to see David Beckham score.

I looked into going to see the LA Galaxy play early on this year as I knew we would be in LA during the MLS season so I decided to book 15 tickets to the match. For me David Beckham is one of my few heroes as he is a fantastic player, leader and inspiration. I have followed his career closely for years and yes I am a fan boy. His resilience and desire to be the best is a model that suites my own outlook on life and I hope that I manage my team in a similar way.

Yesterday was an amazing experience and it was unbelievable how much Beckham is worshiped by the Galaxians, everytime he touched the ball there was a sense that something should happen. The pressure he is under to perform must be overwhelming, it was great though that he scored a goal with us there. The first half was awful with both teams being very static and New England on Independence Day went 2-0 up.

At half time Donavan replaced Gordon and the dynamics of the game changed instantly and it was very entertaining, Galaxy got a goal back and hit the crossbar. New England won the game but to see Beckham score made the trip worth while. The fireworks after the game were quite good but waiting almost two hours for taxis sucked. I may go again next week to watch them play Chivas, I really enjoyed tonight, Thank you Mr Beckham!

Man....it's no wonder americans don't really enjoy football, the standard of play was so bad it was shocking. The first half I don't think I had seen anything as bad in my entire life, and they just didn't pass the ball to Beckham (who was the only player who actually looked like doing anything).

The second half was better, but I can safely say that was probably the most sundayleague-like game of football I have seen in a while.

...and today's pitchside fan (brought to you by Gatorade) is...lol!
