So what is next for Birmingham Salvo!

Posted by: Goodeh

Written by Michael "ODEE" O'Dell, Birmingham Salvo General Manager

Well as I sit here and write this I cannot wait until our combine and draft is upon us as I want to get going into competition mode again. My whole experience of Season 1 was fantastic the combine was great, London was really fun except for losing the final and the world final in Los Angeles was like being in another world it was awesome.

So what am I doing now you may ask, well I am waiting and counting for the UK season 2 to start again. I jealously watched the US draft live but I have to wait another two months at least for ours so in the meantime I have been doing my homework on the UK scene and looking at the superb pool of talent out there. I am very aware of all the top players in each game but there are always players out there that may be off the radar due to the fact that they are unknown or that they are new to the scene. From experience I know that a future World Champion is hiding and I would love them to play for my team.

So how do you get noticed? Well obviously being active in your scene and tournaments helps, winning these tournaments of course equals instant recognition. I always look deeper than that though as for CGS and for my team you need to be more than just a natural winner. The CGS format is unique and not what most are used to so I am looking for players to fit into my squad that contains excellent team players. Salvo is one big team and we work together to succeed, our teamwork and togetherness really helped in LA and it continues to work for us. If you play just for yourself which is not a bad thing with a contract and big prizes available as they are in the CGS, you must understand that the team element is essential in the CGS squads.

For me it will be hard as my team finished third at the world finals but without showing my cards I have to face the fact that I may be unable to keep all of my squad in the next draft. The CGS is not normal eSports in my opinion it is on another new and exciting level and do not forget it is normally LIVE on television.

My advice to anyone wishing to be a part of the Birmingham Salvo or the CGS is to make yourself known to me or any potential GM that you want to impress. My contact details are on the page, tell me who you are what you do, what you can do and most important of all why you want to be a part of my team. I would recommend doing your homework on the league, watch the video’s on thecgs.com, message existing CGS players and find out what it is all about.

I look forward to seeing you at the combine and my last piece of advice let me know who you are at that event, if you hide in the corner and do not say hello you are cheating yourself out of potential spot in my team.

Good Luck, ODEE.

Nice Article

There is loads of talent out there waiting to be found, i think more so this year with Forza and FIfa.

And ^ Salvo did come 3rd...Lost in Semi to Chicago who came 1st.

Good article ODEE. It's good to see GMs letting the new talent know that they won't be overlooked if they are good enough.

From my own experience, I just turned up at the last CGS combine on the off chance and ended up as UK DOA4 womens champion and a member of the London Mint team. I hope that this shows that it really is true that you don't need to be known on the gaming scene to get into a CGS team, but you do have to be good enough at your game to beat your opponents at the combine.

Also, I totally agree with your comments about the team. Anyone who can't play for their team and work for their team, and do their best not to let their team down should not be on a CGS team in my view. Everyone must pull together and support each other if a team is going to function well.
